Ideas for asian themed wedding decorations?
October 28, 2009
Having wedding at japanese garden and dinner afterwards at japanese restaurant.
What ideas do you have for decorations that have an asian feel. My wedding colors will be mostly brown and green (a fall version… not lime or bright green) with pink accents here and there.
Also, any good websites to look at or shop on
I hear you! I am Korean, my husband is white. For our fall wedding, we wanted a wedding that had a slightly asian flair but not over the top. I had SUCH a hard time at first because all the typical wedding sites that have favors, decorations, etc had only over the top type of asian things – the bright red and black type. That’s not our style plus our color was chocolate. If you email me & give me your email address, I’ll be happy to email you pics of our wedding so you can see examples.
We picked out gorgeous Chiyogami paper that had small pink flowers with brown accents. We used the paper to accent our invitations and programs. It was beautiful! Here is a site that has this kind of decorative paper:

You can also just do a yahoo search for Chiyogami paper. We lucked out on the florist we chose. She was not only a great florist but was into doing arts & crafts to compliment her stuff. She went to fabric stores and let me choose 2 fabrics that had asian feels then she sewed table runners for every table (for the reception) and throw pillows for the benches that were under the arbor where we were getting married. It was a gorgeous and personalized compliment. The centerpieces for the reception tables was a rectangular clear glass vase with river rock in them and lilies tied with matching ribbon (that went with our colors). There was a gorgeous arbor in the gardens where we got married. She tied beautiful red paper lanterns and strung tiny white lights under there – we had a 5:30pm wedding. We had a tent at our reception and under there, we strung white paper lanterns. Everything turned out beautifully!!!! For our wedding favors, we chose these tiny chinese take out boxes (frosted color). We took that same decorative paper and used it to wrap around the box and then used personalized stickers to hold it together. Inside the boxes, we had personalized fortune cookies that said things like "thank you for coming" and such. Everything was gorgeous – an asian feel without the tacky red and black colors.

I ordered the personalized stickers from Beau Coup – they were gorgeous. Here’s the link for that:

I chose the cherry blossom design.

What is the average amount people spend on their wedding decorations?
October 28, 2009
I have to do a report for my sociology class, and I have a marraige partner and everything. and i have the cost for my dress and rings and all that, and now im doing the decorations. i have no idea how much i should go about spending on all them. how much have you people who are married spent for the total on decorations?
I only spent $500, which was all flowers. I had my wedding at a bed and breakfast so that we didn’t need any decorations. The ceremony was in the garden which needed minimal decorations we had rose petals down the aisle and a floral arrangement in the water fountain. The reception was inside so it didn’t need any decorations.
Balloons and streamers for wedding decorations?
October 21, 2009
I’m on a budget and both my mother and my fiances mother thinks balloons and crepe paper streamers are fine for a wedding. I will be having flowers for my center pieces. Do you think those thing make weddings look cheesy? Any other ideas on low cost decorations?
WHAT!!! you can’t possibly be serious. Everyone in the world is on a budget, but you certainly don’t see people using balloons and streamers!!!!
This is not a 5 year old childs birthday right??
If you want people to take you serious, do not under any circumstances, or any budget crunch, use balloons and streamers.
edit-anyone who tells you that is a fine idea…is just fishing for a Best Answer.
Indoor Garden theme wedding decorations help please?
October 21, 2009
I am planning a garden theme wedding for July of 2009. I am struggling because I am doing an indoor wedding reception and don’t know a good way to decorate and need some ideas. I was thinking something like bubble bowls filled with flowers, but I’m concerned that will be too plain… I need ideas for center peices and other decoration ideas as well.
Start visiting your local craft stores now. Many of them will be having ’summer’ items on clearance, such as feather butterflies, dragonflies and such. Stock up to include them in your decorating. You’ll want to see if you can find places to either buy (if you think you can re-use it) or rent arches, the kind you’d find in a garden. Place them near the door, over the cake table as well. Same thing trellis’ that you could either cover in silk ivy or have garlands made by your florist (pricey though). See if there is a way the venue would allow you to bring in a water feature to add ambiance. Use as many christmas white lights as you can throughout. Large lacy ferns will help fill empty spaces.
For centerpieces I would use a tall vase with an arrangement on the top that ‘drips’ flowers and greenery. Put a battery operated tea light in the vase surrounded by glass marbles to give it a ‘glow’. Use those butterflies and dragonflies throughout the entire venue.

Great Wedding Centerpiece Ideas on a Budget
August 29, 2009
A great article that I have come across speaks to the notion of creating affordable wedding centerpieces, i.e. crafting wedding centerpiece ideas on a budget. Table centerpieces are certainly important at many different types of functions from retirement parties to gaudy family reunions, but definitely nowhere near as important than at a wedding! This is no small matter to consider the mood of an occasion and the general theme and colors that have been carefully picked. We have all been at weddings and been very disappointed by the small amount of time and effort that went into creating the centerpieces.
My daughter was recently married in Door County WI. (For those who don’t know about Door County, it is like a smaller version of Long Island. The main difference is that it is surrounded by Lake Michigan instead of the Atlantic Ocean) The wedding reception was held in a vintage 1920’s type lodge with wood cedar ceilings and hand polished wood floors that are original. My wife who is a brilliant decorator and also operates a gift basket on the side put the whole package together and made a delightful candy bar as a focal point of the reception. The guests simply raved about the candy bar which was set up on three long tables with huge hurricane type vases filled with many different types of delectable treats. In designing the wedding decorations and wedding centerpieces, it was important to stay consistent to the chosen wedding theme as well as the size and number of tables, color of the tablecloths, color of wedding attire and the venue’s décor.
Flowers are commonly chosen as wedding centerpieces for their variety, color, fragrance and ease of availability. Choosing flowers which are out of season can become costly and difficult to find. An alternative to using fresh flowers of your choice, you could use silk flowers on their own or mixed with fresh flowers.A lot of the fun in designing a wedding decor comes from one’s ability to be creative and innovative and to use simple yet effective props. You don’t have to be a genius or “professional” either. Take time to look through magazines, perhaps photos taken from other weddings, website images or even check with other wedding venues to see other wedding receptions that are being set up at their venues. There is nothing wrong with borrowing ideas from others because most certainly they have done the same with at least a portion of their own reception plans. If you have settled on a particular venue, then a couple of trips on a saturday to see the finished products might be very helpful!
There are many, many ideas for inexpensive centerpieces using candles. You can use a simple flower arrangement and put a candle in the center. Make sure to choose the candle size so that it is appropriate to the size of the centerpiece. Typical candles can be pillar or votive types. They come in many different sizes and colors. You can also use floater candles where you would place them in small drinking glasses. Fill up the glasses with water and place the candle inside. Using shorter glasses makes it easier to light. A good tip is to have a long-handled Bic type lighter available as it makes quick work and saves on the fingertips! All types of fruits work well and you can vary the colors, aromas, and textures in your choices. Shelf like is obviously one shortcoming that must be carefully planned and arranged for when it comes to fruits. Tropical fruits, including pomegranates cut in half. Buy glass vases or containers for your centerpiece from markets, bargain shops or $2 stores.
Use your imagination for a summer wedding!Mirrors are very creative indeed! There are a number of ideas for inexpensive centerpieces that center around the use of mirrors. One idea would be to take a mirror and place a candle in a glass holder on top of it. The candle or the holder can match the colors of your wedding theme if you can find a matching color.Collect (free) branches, leaves, pine cones, driftwood and spray with gold or silver metallic spray paint. Arrange in the center of the table with a few long lasting tea lights. Other alternatives are ivy, holly and rosemary. Dark table cloths really set this off. An eye catching arrangement!Size matters when it comes to wedding centerpieces. If you make them too large or bulky, it could cut down on the necessary space as well as be a hindrance to guests being able to see each other and communicate. If the meals come with several plates, then that could be akward!Balloon are a great idea for inexpensive centerpieces. You can purchase balloons, ribbon, and then rent a helium tank. After you fill them, make sure to attach a weight to each one so they stay put and don’t float away. You can also scatter confetti or rose petals around the centerpieces.

Awesome inexpensive wedding decorations for a black & white theme?
August 14, 2009
I am getting married & my colors are black & white. I don’t want to break the bank on this wedding & reception so I am looking for anyone who has ideas & suggestions for "homemade" wedding decorations …. or if you have any suggestions on how to use the colors. We are planning an outdoor September wedding. If you have any really cheap websites for decor, that’d be useful as well!
You could go with a zen black & white look inexpensively. Fill fishbowls with polished black & white stones and a floating candle and place on a tatami mat (like, the kind for sushi). Hang japanese paper lanterns.
Or, a very hot look if you don’t mind DIY is to make some simple arrangements of white and ivory flowers (white roses, hydrangea, mums, get these from an online wholesaler or Sams Club type place). Place these in square glass vases and either cover the vases in black & white damask fabric (VERY chic) or hot glue or tape a belt of black ribbon with a rhinestone buckle around the vases.
What’s the best website to buy used (cherry blossom) wedding decorations?
August 14, 2009
I’m having a cherry blossom themed wedding and with all the choices, I was thinking, "what does someone do with the centerpieces, decorations?". Instead of throwing them away, I would gladly pay for the continuity and not having to shop around for every little thing and I’m all about recycling. Is there a good website for that? Thanks
try www.centerpieceinabox.com they’re based near DC and have a bunch of stuff that is not on the website…and some amazing ideas to save money…
congratulations and good luck
How can I find wedding decorations with the claddagh symbol on them?
August 14, 2009
I am trying to find decorations for my wedding reception and our theme is irish/claddaugh. Everything I have found is green w/ shamrocks. HELP
You may have to do a lot of searching and you probably have to order them online. Try the first site. Hopefully they will help.
Worse comes to shove, you may have to create some of your own decorations. The second website might be able to provide you with some designs to work with.
Good luck.
